Slavery is not a phenomenon of the past, it is a feature of the present. Many humans in many places are put into conditions where they cannot escape. The only option they have is to work with the hope that one day they might be free - but this day never comes. We here in this VCC are determined to develop a community that can help to identify modern-day slavery and find ways to free those who are enslaved.

[Apr. 21, 2026] Cyber Slavery in Southeast Asia: In a recent blog titled “A New Form of Slavery: Cyber Slavery in Southeast Asia” published by the Human Rights Research Center, the author Esther Annorzie points out that “cyber slavery is a growing trend in Southeast Asia especially in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines.” Many scam centers in Southeast Asia are based on modern day slavery operations, and many human rights violations are abundant. The slave victims are kidnapped, abused, and forced to engage in widespread cyber scams.
